How I Work

The way in which I work is influenced by four main approaches that whilst complimentary can be used slightly differently depending on the needs a particular client or family has. They are Systemic Family Therapy, which is my core training, Mentalization, Social Learning Theory (Parenting) and Trauma Focused Therapy. These approaches are underpinned by an ongoing self reflective process that I believe is essential to my being able to practice ethically and effectively.

I try to create an environment in which clients can feel comfortable to talk to me about important aspects of their lives. I believe in being open about my own thinking as I have found that most people want a therapist who offers them ideas and hopefully some expertise. I try to do this in a way that encourages a dialogue and in a way that helps clients to access their own insight, strengths and qualities.

Main areas of work

In the past I worked for children’s services as a clinician in the child protection, looked after children, adoption and disability services. I then became Head of Clinical Practice in Harrow in 2012-2014 and again in Kensington&Chelsea in 2017. I also worked at The Anna Freud Centre with parents diagnosed with personality disorders.

In my private practice I work with individuals, couples and families who present with a wide range of difficulties and challenges including experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, challenging behavior/ emotional difficulties in children, autism, personality disorders, addiction, grief and loss and with clients who have experienced trauma.
I have a great deal of experience in working with families and couples going through separation and divorce, including through solicitors requests.

I was a regular guest lecturer on the Professional Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology at UEL and have taught Systemic Family Therapy for various agencies including the Tavistock, the Institute of Family Therapy and Morning Lane Associates.I’m currently the Lead Tutor for the Centre for Systemic Social Work and a guest tutor for Frontline.
