FAMILY CONSTELLATIONS
Often family issues are ‘hidden’ behind closed doors. Difficult relationships can be ignored and people are often excluded or forgotten. There can also be shame and guilt attached to difficult or taboo subjects! So is it any wonder that often, unresolved issues get ‘passed down the family line’ and appear in later generations, in a different disguise. When that happens, it is as if someone is carrying a past legacy that they do not rec-ognise as their own. They may in fact, be carrying the burdens of others unknowingly and then feel over-whelmed, or as if they are not ‘living their own life’.
Family Constellations can help you to explore these kinds of transgenerational issues. They can indicate ‘entanglements’ in relationships and ‘stuckness’ within the family system, by showing what is known and sur-facing what has remained hidden. The process can help to clarify a situation and offer a different perspec-tive. The purpose of the constellation, is to enable steps to reconcile, resolve or bring healing to difficult sit-uations and relationships.
During each workshop several people will have an opportunity to work on a personal issue. The method involves ‘mapping a living constellation’, using the group in a support role as you choose ‘representatives’ for family members. We will also work in pairs and small groups so that everyone will be able to explore the approach.
The kinds of situations that you will be able to work with include…..
• Family entanglements that show up as confused relationships and feelings
• Intractable difficulties and conflicts that never seem to get resolved
• Rpetitive patterns and cycles of behaviour over generations
• Carrying burdens for other family members, or feeling weighted down
• Wider community issues that impact the family

About Sonya Welch Moring: I have been facilitating and leading groups for over 25 years and worked in a diverse range of social and healthcare settings, as a group facilitator, mediator, coach and mental health nurse. I have been trained in a range of different healing modalities and was drawn to the embedded Euro-pean and African traditions found in the systemic constellations method. This transgenerational approach is a way of looking at the past, in order to change the present, so that there can be a different future for individ-uals working on family issues.
